If you’re new here… this is where I share some of my favorites from the week. If you're not new here, you can skip the intro. Just head down past the “subscribe button.”
At our house, we have one of our Alexa’s trained to start playing the Amazon Music “Pop Culture” playlist at 5 o’clock. She says, “It’s 5 o’clock on Friday. Celebrate the start of your weekend…” and then starts the music.
Sometimes we are home and it leads to a dance party. Sometimes we aren’t home and whenever we get home there is music playing. Either way, it is always enjoyable and makes us smile.
This email is meant to be like that — a weekly dose of things to read, enjoy, and make you smile.
As you can see in the picture above - downtown Sacramento has got some new huge advertisements hanging on the buildings — advertising Portland.
I was mildly entertained that they are roasting Sacramento for not being Green enough - and I thought we were the city of trees? Can the City of Sacramento put some up in Portland? I think a little city-to-city rivalry could be fun.
Of course, I don’t know how many people are seeing it since our downtown is less than happening.
If you are on Instagram, go check out @justinglaze. I don’t even know how I came across him, but if I had to guess it would be because Instagram feeds me Wicked content and he painted a Glinda/Elphaba card.
He takes playing cards and paints pictures over them that are just lovely. The bonus of his content is the ASMR when you watch him paint them.
I never was much of a “duck lips” selfie taker. I am a millennial through and through, but that was not part of it for me. So it seems just fine that the Gen Z pout takes over.
Although, I think it looks a little bit like RBH.
I think a lot about cooking these days. While I’ve never really considered the digital era and its impacts on cookbooks, it makes total sense that they wouldn’t be as impacted as other books. Who wants to cook with an iPad in their kitchen?
I print recipes sometimes - but overall, cookbooks seem pretty irreplaceable. And if you aren’t following along with my yearlong challenge to cook one recipe from my cookbook collection every day, you should head over and follow.
Happy Friday and I hope you enjoy the long weekend in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
